Penobscot Root Clubs

The Root Club is an on-going
tradition of the Penobscot
People. They are referred to
as War or Ceremonial Clubs.
These clubs are formed from
the root burl, tip, and trunk
of Birch Trees.

Native faces and animals are
hand carved into these clubs
as well as leaves and other
symbolic patterns of the
Wabanaki People.

No 2 clubs are ever alike as
each have their own spirit of
the tree.

All the pieces of art come with
a certificate of authenticity from
the Native American artist who made
them. Some even have a short story
about their meaning.
